Aspen RMN Camp 2011

Forrest and I are over in Aspen for a fantastic RMN training camp. Great opportunities for running and roller-skiing with over 50 athletes from across Colorado. Perhaps the greatest part is the snow-fall on the ground; actual skiing is almost upon us. We ran a 5km on Saturday AM on brutal terrain, a tough surface, and in the snow. After that it was time for the RMN coaches meeting. Forrest rested up while the coaches met… and we then headed out for a 90 minute double pole. Most had a couple blisters on  the hands after this session. The whole group of us took over the ‘Hickory House’ for dinner on Saturday night where we had a great meal, and then the kids went to sleep early in preparation for Sunday’s efforts. The coaches stayed up and worked on the RMN website which should be updated in the next week or so. Sleep came easy on Saturday night!

SSWSC Coach Josh Smullin gives some technique pointers prior to starting
Forrest is all grins at the start. A bit wiped out after this thing was over! 1 hour 45 minute DP.
Smullin holds the audience captive. Aspen coach John Callahan holds the ‘puke’ box for later!
Smullin shows a good double pole position. The roller-ski was beautiful for sure
Sunday dawned and we hopped in the van to head to Carbondale for a 20 – 30 mile skate roller-ski. Most of the athletes and coaches skied for 2 hours and 15 minutes for 23 miles. The terrain was all super gradual with mellow uphill grades. Great ski session. Forrest and I skied together for the majority of the day, with Forrest making some huge technique adjustments which will certainly pay dividends in the future. Nice work man. Now? Finishing typing this and getting ready to head out the door for a 1.5 – 2.0 hour run on awesome terrain. Monday will be a solid skate roller-ski time trial. Stay tuned for one more blog update from the Aspen Camp. Forrest is killing it. Here’s to deep snowfall above 10,000′! DC
