CBNT September 2011 Update

The CBNT has been gearing up this fall with 2 morning strength sessions per week and a roller-ski per week, in addition to each athlete’s fall sport. Much good training is being had! This morning, the team had to deal with coach DC’s low blood sugar, fortunately Sara provided a handful of ‘chex-mix’ that saved his life. Our walking lunges, plyo-metric, med-ball, and core routine serves as our backbone for the entire strength session. There are a few weight exercises that we also do to enhance strength, joint mobility and body-awareness. As many of you know, the roller-skiing in the Gunnison Valley is ‘weak’ at best, but we do manage 1 solid roller-ski session in a local neighborhood area. This provides us with a time for no-poles skating, double-pole only upper body strength work, and the occasional ‘long-speed’ session. Our fitness is advancing and we are greatly looking forward to the snow flying and the early season skiing up at Lily Lake during the first week of November.
Boucher challenging for the lead at the Leadville invite. Ian took home 2nd place.
Amber flying around the course for a victory with a strong performance.
The team has also started their fall sports’ seasons. Sara is our lone volleyball player and is killing it (I believe that is a volleyball term). The soccer dudes are gaining fitness and providing leadership for their respective programs. The runners have begun a tremendous season with Amber taking home a victory at the Leadville invite and a 3rd place at the Delta meet. Forrest Smith is running about 4 minutes per 5km faster this year than he did last year. If you ask me, that is absolutely ridiculous. Clearly ‘homeboy’ was sandbagging it last autumn. Ian Boucher? He is extremely fit right now and managed a stellar 2nd place race at the Leadville race on September 10th. Many more races, games, matches, and school to go before we get on snow and begin our training every day as a full Nordic Team. I can’t wait. Here’s to excellence, consistency, growth, and positivity. DC
The 3-Amigos paused during a late summer roller-ski session in Crested Butte.
Boucher hammers at the start of last year’s race season. Stronger this year for sure.
Hannah raced as a cow-girl at the 2011 Alley Loop 10km in Crested Butte. She will now be racing for Middlebury College in Vermont as she is now a college freshman.
